Distillery: Mannochmore Region: Speyside Founded: 1971 Mannochmore Distillery's main claim to fame is that it helped prove beyond any doubt that it's completely wrong to think that the darker a whisky, the older it is. It doesn't take much common sense to appreciate that a £10 bottle of deep mahogany blended whisky in the local supermarket hasn't spent years in a quality cask. A few years back a black Mannochmore, under the name Loch Dhu was released. The color was as a result of maturation in heavily charged barrels or from the addition of a substantial amount of caramel. Take your pick.
