Product Information
Rozes was founded in Bordeaux in 1855, by Ostende Rozes, a fine wine dealer who started by importing and marketing Port Wines. His son, Edmond Rozes, created the brand "Porto Rozes", choosing at the same time a "Portuguese bottle shape" that would simultaneously allow the brand and port to be identified. Rozes was the first Port Wine exporting group to settle in the Douro Valley, one of the oldest AOC in the world (demarcated in 1756) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Rozes has a centuries-old history linked to the Douro and its reputation is based on our constant concern for expressing the full intensity, richness and complexity of our wines. All the vines in the Rozes vineyard are A-rated, the best quality on an A to F scale. Quinta de Monsul, a Rozes estate in the Douro Valley, has ultra modern facilities used for the entire winemaking process. After grapes picking, pellicular maceration occurs in "lagares" (shallow treading tanks) and then alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The key step for the elaboration of port wines is the interruption of fermentation by the addition of a neutral distilled grape spirit at 77% ABV. Rozes produces red & white ports, vintage, tawny or old ports, blends of selected wines & selected harvests. They are sold once they're approved and get certification from IVDP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto).
