Established in 1986 Burgans has since grown to include almost 600 families with over 3000 small Albarino parcels. In Rias-Baixas, most grapes are processed in cooperatives due to the region's small land holdings. Luciano Amoedo, a ninth-generation grower, drives Martin Codax's success. With Katia Alvarez overseeing winemaking, they focus on Albarino, conducting regular vineyard visits for education on farming techniques. Members are paid based on fruit quality, and all vineyards are in the Salnes sub-zone, known for its cool, humid conditions. In the cellar, Burgans uses temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation and aging, preserving Albarino's freshness. They conduct experiments each vintage to improve wine quality, exploring site variations, natural yeasts, aging duration, and fermentation vessels. This commitment to excellence sets Burgans apart, challenging the misconception about cooperative wines.
